SHIPPED TO DOUG IN HAWAII

ü Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit.

ü We have completely gone through this unit cleaning everything including all switches, controls and contacts. Extensive cleaning of unit internally.

ü Internal fuses checked for continuity and correct values. No issues found, fortunately. We don't like seeing incorrect fuses having been installed in a unit as that could mean it had prior issues, or if a fuse value was 'increased' it could have allowed too much current through an 'ailing' circuit causing un-due / un-necessary damage.

ü Controls were 'flooded' w/ 'De-OxId' and are quiet

ü Tuner string checked for any fraying then re-tensioned to increase traction & relieve flywheel binding and re-centered pointer to correct dial position. As the "Eight" utilizes a complicated 'gear box' that the tuning knob is actually connected to, it feels and operates different than most (occasionally feels like it's 'slipping' but it's not. Seems to slow down when it reaches a station). Not sure what the reason for the "gear box" is for, but that's how it's made)

ü We aligned the tuner front-end for optimum AM & FM performance as older internal tuner components have always drifted on vintage gear over the years. VERY GOOD TUNER! AM seems to be an 'afterthought' on many stereo receivers and component tuners. The AM is above average for a 'stereo receiver' on this SANSUI Eight / 8.

ü ALL lamps / bulbs replaced; dial, Stereo indicator, Aux, 'FM', 'Phono-1', Phono-2, Tape, & meter lamps 'proactively' replaced trouble-free service!!!

ü Amplifier section had output bias adjusted to spec levels.

ü NOW both amplifiers have 'even' clipping on 'plus' and 'minus' rails.

ü All inputs tested and both side produces clean and even sine waves into 'brick-wall' 8 & 4 Ohm loads! No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent! All functions test fine.
Total restoration time investment 18 hours
.

ü Following restoration procedures, the unit was run continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a load with "Loudness" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 72 hours into a 4 Ohm load.

ü On our test bench, this particular Eight / 8, #...0198, amplifiers each produced 23 Volts per channel for 66 Watts per channel @ 8Ω via discrete output & 19 Volts per channel for 90 Watts per channel @ 4Ω w/ 1kHz in single channel driven mode via discrete, Metal cased, TO-3 outputs (4x Toshiba 2SC1079).
ü AC draw at idle .2A tested.
ü DC Offset adjusted and measured down to <55mVDC either channel
ü Floor noise measured at >60dBm / 0.1mVAC

ü Following restoration procedures, real, walnut wood, veneer case / bonnet rubbed with Howards "Restore-a-Finish", then "Feed-n-Wax". Looks fabulous. Essentially NEW.

VERY IMPRESSIVE looking, Sansui, brushed silver, Stereo receiver, surrounded by handsome, real Walnut wood veneer side plates. Features gorgeous, back-lit slide rule analog tuning scale with matching VU meters as well. VERY elegant and IMPRESSIVE unit when lit in a darkened room. 'Heavy' built, machined aluminum knobs (all with two set screws) and button caps, also make this unit a pleasure to 'feel'.
Incredible internal build quality as well. One of the most impressive internal builds of any unit we've seen (think Pioneer SA-8100 and SA-9100).
 This receiver has a very 'musical' pre-amp and power amp. Lot's of punch, headroom and just great 'tone'. Here's a link to a informative page on this model;

Again, as stated before, we have completely gone through this SANSUI
Eight / 8  Stereo Receiver, cleaning and testing all and it gets our full 'Certification'. Everything is in fabulous electrical and cosmetic condition! Only cosmetic issues worth mentioning are a few dings on the wood case, mostly on the rear, side edges and a slight ding to the 'Tape-Mon' button (see photos above).  Looks NEAR NEW and sounds great! Great looking when lit up at night or in a darkened room! Again, this unit is a 'blast' to use.
So if you read and understand the above mentioned specifications, some that stand out are, "Damping Factor" of >60!, Bass and Treble Controls that are ±15dB instead of the typical 10dB (that's 50% more range!), 'Fixed Resistor' tone controls instead of typical carbon trace pots (that's a huge deal from a quality and longevity standpoint), 300mV phono overload limit still with a decent THD rating, >80dB overall S/N, FM "Stereo Selectivity" >80dB.
Comes with an 'e-copy / PDF download of the SANSUI Eight / 8 Owners manual. Measures 17.6" wide x 5.5" tall x 13" deep and weighs an impressive 36 lbs unpacked. Includes our standard 90 day limited warranty.

Our technician has completely gone through this unit cleaning everything including all switches (actually accessed
(requires 'splitting' the unit horizontally) and fully flooded), controls and contacts for quiet, positive operation.
Extra attention is ALWAYS necessary on Sansui 990 / 9090 units to the 'Input Selector' and 'Dolby' switches, and they were completely disassembled, thoroughly cleaned, burnished, had contacts 're-sprung' and tested (only about half the 990's, 8080's and 9090's have input selector switches that will respond to cleaning only). On this unit, he actually bypassed the wafer portion that routes the dial light current, and direct wired the lights to be lit constantly
(the issue with the dial lights on Sansui 880 / 8080-DB / 990 / 9090-DB series receivers is that the contacts were, by design, too anemic to handle the 1 Amp+ current they require).  He also re-flowed all dial lamp solder joints, especially at the 'extremes' of the board. Now dial lamps light solidly and inputs sonically intact. DC measurements taken 'post-preamp', 'post driver board' and 'post power amp'. Questionable driver board replaced with another original, inspected component by component & contacts burnished. Once reseated, DC measurements re-taken. Once driver board was replaced, then the tech moved to address the output transistors. Substitute 'generic' outputs and bad original outputs removed and we 'hand picked' from our extensive collection of original Sansui 9090 output transistors, and closely matched 'quads' of outputs to re-install. Fresh heat sink compound used of course. Green 'LED' Power indicator's 'current limiting' circuit components replaced as necessary. The 'typically broken', Sansui 9090 AM antenna socket replaced . We also aligned the tuner front-end for optimum AM & FM performance as older internal tuner components have always drifted on vintage gear over the years. All dial, all meter (including the very difficult to replace power meter lamps ), all function indicator and stereo indicator lamps replaced with new units for years of trouble-free service. Also we 'painstakingly' replaced the 'dial pointer' lamp. The dial string was cleaned and re-tensioned. Once unit's electronics were addressed, the unit was cosmetically detailed inside and out, including rubbing the Real Walnut Wood veneer case with a fresh coat of lemon oil. All original, extruded face, and milled aluminum knobs in great shape after detailing. Internal and external dial screen and window in perfect shape. All inputs tested, including both phonos, and both amplifiers produces clean and even sine waves into static 8 & 4 ohm loads! No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent! All functions test fine. The real Walnut wood veneer in good condition with only very minor wear. Following restoration procedures, the unit was operated continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a load with ""Loudness"" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 72 hours.

Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit. Everything was cleaned inside and out including all contacts, switches, controls and I/O jacks. Control Pot shafts re-sprung. Internal and external fuses checked and replaced where necessary. We also aligned the tuner for optimum AM & FM performance as older internal tuner components have always drifted on vintage gear over the years. All meter, dial, and FM stereo lamps replaced for trouble-free service (very difficult to do on this series of receiver). All 4 power transistors removed and fresh heat-sink compound applied. Tuner string re-tensioned and flywheel string 'grip' improved. Amplifier section had output bias and DC offset adjusted to spec levels. Entire unit cleaned / detailed cosmetically inside and out, including a fresh coat of lemon oil rubbed into the Real Walnut wood veneer cabinet, while chassis was removed. All inputs tested and both side produces clean and even sine waves into static 8 & 4 ohm loads! No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent! All functions test fine. Following restoration procedures, the unit was run continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a load with "Loudness" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 48 hours and into a 4 Ohm Load!

While this unit was originally rated at XX wpc, on our test bench, both this unit's amplifiers, #...1843 produced peak power of XX volts per channel @ 8 ohms for XX watts and XX volts @ 4 ohms for XX watts per channel via discrete, TO-3, metal cased outputs with 1 kHz input. (4x Sanken 2SC1111,

(same as Toshiba 2SC793)). DC offset adjusted to and measured at 2.6mVDC L&R. Idle current draw within spec. Floor noise measured at 6mVAC w/ AUX shunted.

This is from what many consider to be one of Sansui's best eras. The Sansui 2000X stereo receiver. The "X" suffix designates upgraded f-6013 driver boards that are sought after by owners of "non-X" units as an aftermarket upgrade. We have had a few 'X000' series Sansui units and they are among some of the best sounding, 'vintage', 'main stream' amplifiers we have heard. Lot's of headroom and punch! Similar in sound to many of the NAD amplifiers / receivers we sold back in the 80's. This one also is installed in the optional, REAL walnut wood veneer case.

ü  Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit.

ü  Everything was cleaned inside and out including all contacts, switches and controls.

ü  We also aligned the tuner for optimum AM & FM performance as older internal tuner components have always drifted on vintage gear over the years. VERY GOOD TUNER! AM reception WAY above average, FM reception incredible, PUNCHY and IMPECCABLY CLEAN!!! due to the triple FET FM front end and the quality of the restoration.

ü  All meter, dial, function indicator and FM stereo indicator lamps replaced for trouble-free service (very difficult to do on this series of receiver and there's a total of 12).

ü  All 4 power transistors removed, tested for leakage and reinstalled with fresh heat-sink compound.

ü  DC offset checked (although as it’s a ‘cap couple’ amp, there better not be any DC) and bias current adjusted to correct levels.

ü  Two stuck dual section controls were replaced and shafts lubed.

ü  Damaged illuminated dial indicator was replaced.

ü  Entire unit cleaned / detailed cosmetically inside and out. Only cosmetic issues with this unit are some scuffing of the wood cabinet and very minor wear on the face.

ü  All inputs tested and both sides produce clean and even sine waves into static 8 & 4 ohm loads! No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent! All functions test fine.

ü  Following restoration procedures, the unit was run continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifiers / receivers are, into a load with "Loudness" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 48 hours and into a 4 Ohm Load!

On our test bench, each internal amplifier of this particular unit, #...3882, produced peak power of XX volts @ 8Ω per channel for XX watts / channel and XX volts @ 4Ω per channel for XX watts / channel via Discrete output devices at 1khz. (4X Toshiba metal case TO-3 2SC1079). AC Idle current at .220A, & floor noise <1.4 mVAC.

Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit. Everything was cleaned inside and out including all switches, controls, contacts and the tuning capacitor. We also aligned the tuner front-end for optimum AM & FM performance as older internal tuner components have always drifted on vintage gear over the years. All dial, meter, function indicator and stereo indicator lamps replaced with new units for trouble-free service. Amplifier section had output bias and DC offset adjusted to spec levels. All inputs tested, including phono. Both amplifiers produce clean and even sine waves into static 8 & 4 ohm loads! No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent! The Walnut wood grain, vinyl wrapped cabinet has numerous, battle scars, but is structurally fine. Following restoration procedures, the unit was operated continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a load with ""Loudness"" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 72 hours.

On our test bench, both amplifiers each produced peak power of XXX5 Volts per channel for a VERY STRONG AND PUNCHY sounding XX watts per channel at 8 ohms & XXVolts per channel for XX watts per channel at 4 ohms via discrete, TO-66 metal cased outputs. (2x 2SC1445 & 2x 2SA765)
AC Idle current at .2A, floor noise <2mvAC.

This thing is incredible when lit up at night or in a dark room!! Measures 18.25" wide x 6.5" tall x 13" deep and weighs 24 lbs unpacked. Includes our standard 30 day limited warranty.

SOLD 1/11/16
SHIPPED TO WISCONSIN

On our test bench, both amplifiers on this unit, #...1831, each produced peak power of 17.75 Volts per channel for a VERY STRONG AND PUNCHY sounding 39 watts per channel at 8 ohms & 15 Volts per channel for 56 watts per channel at 4 ohms via discrete, TO-66 metal cased outputs. (2x 2SC1445 & 2x 2SA765)
AC Idle current at .25A, floor noise <0.1mvAC L&R.

This is only the forth Sansui 5050 we have had in 18 years. These are known for great tuners, and  very warm sounding amps, with lots of punch and headroom. Very "Musical" sounding  with real output transistors and well designed power supplies.

Our technician has completely gone through this unit cleaning everything including all switches (actually accessed (requires 'splitting' the unit horizontally) and fully flooded), controls and contacts for quiet, positive operation.
Extra attention is ALWAYS necessary on Sansui 8080 / 9090 units to the 'Input Selector'
and 'Dolby / Tape-Monitor' switches, and they were completely disassembled, thoroughly cleaned, burnished, had contacts 're-sprung' and tested (only about half the 990's, 8080's and 9090's have input selector switches that will respond to cleaning only).
'Sansui 2624-Driver-Board 'removed, inspected / tested component by component & contacts burnished. Once reseated, DC measurements re-taken. Once driver board was tested, then the tech moved to address the output transistors. All output transistors removed and individually tested. Fresh heat sink compound used of course. Green 'LED' Power indicator's 'current limiting' circuit components replaced as necessary. We also aligned the tuner front-end for optimum AM & FM performance as older internal tuner components have always drifted on vintage gear over the years. All dial, all meter (including the very difficult to replace power meter lamps  ), all function indicator and stereo indicator lamps replaced with new units for trouble-free service. Dial light solder contacts re-flowed. Also we 'painstakingly' replaced the 'dial pointer' lamp. The dial string was cleaned and re-tensioned. Once unit's electronics were addressed, the unit was cosmetically detailed inside and out. All original, extruded face, and milled aluminum knobs in great shape after detailing. Internal and external dial screen and window in perfect shape. We removed the dial window and re-finished the black mask behind it. All inputs tested, including phono input, and both amplifiers produces clean and even sine waves into static 8 & 4 ohm loads! No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent! All functions test fine. The Walnut wood grain, vinyl wrapped in good condition with minor wear. Following restoration procedures, the unit was operated continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a load with ""Loudness"" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 72 hours.

On our test bench, this particular Sansui 8080, #...0786, amplifiers each produced 27.8 volts per channel for 96 watts per channel @ 8 Ω via discrete output & 24 volts per channel for 144 watts per channel @ 4 Ω via discrete, Metal cased, original TO-3 outputs (Sanken 4x  2SC1116 output transistors).
(AC draw at idle 245mA tested,
DC offset adjusted to <3mV each side.)
The tuner quality on both AM & FM is exceptional due to aspects such as a fully shielded tuning capacitor . The 'typically broken' Sansui 8080 AM antenna socket still intact and 'un-broken'.

SHIPPED TO NORTH DAKOTA

Our technician has completely gone through this unit cleaning everything including all switches (actually accessed (requires 'splitting' the unit horizontally) and fully flooded), controls and contacts for quiet, positive operation.
Extra attention is ALWAYS necessary on Sansui 8080 / 9090 units to the 'Input Selector'
and 'Dolby' switches, and they were completely disassembled, thoroughly cleaned, burnished, had contacts 're-sprung' and tested (only about half the 990's, 8080's and 9090's have input selector switches that will respond to cleaning only). DC measurements taken 'post-preamp', 'post driver board' and 'post power amp'. 'Sansui 2624-Driver-Board 'removed, inspected / tested component by component & contacts burnished. Once reseated, DC measurements re-taken. Once driver board was tested, then the tech moved to address the output transistors. Substitute 'generic' outputs and bad original outputs removed and we 'hand picked' from our extensive collection of original Sansui 9090 output transistors, and matched 'quads' of outputs to re-install. Fresh heat sink compound used of course. Green 'LED' Power indicator's 'current limiting' circuit components replaced as necessary. We also aligned the tuner front-end for optimum AM & FM performance as older internal tuner components have always drifted on vintage gear over the years. All dial, all meter (including the very difficult to replace power meter lamps  ), all function indicator and stereo indicator lamps replaced with new units for years of trouble-free service ('Stereo' indicator replaced with an LED).

On our test bench, this particular Sansui 9090DB, #...0129, amplifiers each produced 35 volts per channel for 153 watts per channel @ 8 Ω via discrete output & 31 volts per channel for 242 watts per channel @ 4 Ω via discrete, Metal cased, original TO-3 outputs (Toshiba 4x  2SB554 & 4x 2SD424 output transistors).
(AC draw at idle 420mA tested,
DC offset adjusted to <2mV each side.)

  ___________________________

Here's the first Sansui 9090DB we've had, that's made it all the way through our restoration with no 'terminal' issues, since 2004! These receivers are known for great AM/FM tuners, and amplifiers that you can "darn near weld with".
The tuner quality on both AM & FM is exceptional due to aspects such as a fully shielded tuning capacitor . The amps are incredibly warm sounding with HUGE punch and headroom. Very "Musical" sounding with real output transistors and huge power supplies.  A testament to the strength of the power supply is that the results we achieved on the test bench. Most receivers will have from 20-40% more power at 4 Ohms than they do at 8 Ohms. This is primarily due to power supply limitations. However, the Sansui 9090 at 4 Ohms is almost double what the receiver's amplifiers are are rated at for 8 Ohms!!!
The difference in tone of an 8080 or 9090, with a 'clean bill of health', and most other receivers is astronomical. It's a difference that must be experienced to be appreciated.
Again, we done EXTENSIVE refurbishment / restoration work (~18 hours) on this unit to insure it's performance. With the exception of a few very minor 'tic' marks on the front panel, the face plate, window and knobs are in great cosmetic condition (see photos above). The 'typically broken' Sansui 9090 AM antenna socket
still intact and 'un-broken'.

Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit, cleaning everything including all switches, controls and contacts for quiet, positive operation.
Extra attention is ALWAYS necessary on Sansui units to the 'Input Selector'  and 'Tape Monitor' switches, and they were thoroughly cleaned and tested (one great thing about the "G" series, over it's predecessor series, the 990/9090 and 8080, is that the input selector contacts are not also conducting the 'dial lamps', so a common intermittent dial lamp issue with those units is averted on the G-9000).
He also re-flowed all dial lamp solder joints, especially at the 'extremes' of the board. ALL NEW dial lamps light solidly and inputs sonically intact. DC measurements taken 'post-preamp', 'post driver board' and 'post power amp'. Bias current set to spec. Green 'LED' Power indicator's 'current limiting' circuit components tested. We also aligned the tuner dial indicator and tuner front-end for optimum AM & FM performance as older internal tuner components have always drifted on vintage gear over the years. All dial, all meter (including the very difficult to replace power meter lamps), all function indicator and stereo indicator lamps replaced with new units for years of trouble-free service.  Mechanical volume preset disassembled, cleaned and re-lubed. Once the unit's electronics were addressed, it was cosmetically detailed inside and out. All original, extruded face, and milled aluminum knobs in great shape after detailing. Internal and external dial screen and window in perfect shape. All inputs tested, including both phonos, and both amplifiers produce clean and even sine waves into static 8 & 4 ohm loads! No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent! All functions test fine. Only cosmetic issues are minor, ie; a small tic in the upper, left corner of the face plate, and some minor scuffs on the sides (see above photos). The real Walnut wood veneer in good condition with only very minor wear. Following restoration procedures, the unit was operated continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a load with ""Loudness"" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 72 hours.

On our test bench, this particular Sansui G-9000, #...0492, amplifiers each produced 38 volts per channel for 180 watts per channel @ 8 Ω via discrete output & 35 volts per channel for 306 watts per channel @ 4 Ω via discrete, Metal cased, original TO-3 outputs.
(AC draw at idle 623mA tested,
DC offset adjusted to 0mV each side.
Floor noise measured at L=00.0mVAC and R=00.0mVAC)

ü Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit.

ü We have completely gone through this unit cleaning everything including all switches, controls and contacts. Extensive cleaning of unit internally.

ü Internal fuses checked for continuity and correct values. No issues found, fortunately. We don't like seeing incorrect fuses having been installed in a unit as that could mean it had prior issues, or if a fuse value was 'increased' it could have allowed too much current through an 'ailing' circuit causing un-due / un-necessary damage.

ü Controls were 'flooded' w/ 'De-OxId' and are quiet

ü Tuner string checked for any fraying then re-tensioned to increase traction & relieve flywheel binding and re-centered pointer to correct dial position.

ü We aligned the tuner front-end for optimum AM & FM performance as older internal tuner components have always drifted on vintage gear over the years. VERY GOOD TUNER! AM seems to be an 'afterthought' on many stereo receivers and component tuners. The AM is above average for a 'stereo receiver' on this SANSUI QR-4500.

ü All dial, indicator & meter lamps checked. Dial and meter lamps replaced w/ original spec 6.3V / 250mA.

ü We also checked the heat sink compound which should be good for another 30 years.

ü Driver boards removed and had their 'edge connectors' burnished.

ü Amplifier section had output bias adjusted to service manual spec levels of on all four amplifiers.

ü NOW all 4 amplifiers have 'even' clipping on 'plus' and 'minus' rails.

ü DC offset adjusted to VERY LOW levels on all four amplifiers.

ü All inputs tested and both side produces clean and even sine waves into 'brick-wall' 8 & 4 Ohm loads! No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent! All functions test fine.
Total restoration time investment 12+ hours.

ü Following restoration procedures, the unit was run continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a load with "Loudness" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 72 hours into a 4 Ohm load.

ü On our test bench, this particular QR-4500, #...0983, 'FRONT and REAR' amplifiers each produced 15.5 Volts per channel for 30 Watts (160 WPC peak) per channel @ 8Ω via discrete output & 13Volts per channel for 42 Watts (240 WPC peak) per channel @ 4Ω via discrete, Metal cased, TO-3 outputs.
ü AC draw at idle .3A tested. DC 10-15mV any single channel.
ü Floor noise measured at >-60dBm / 0.1mVAC

HUGE and VERY IMPRESSIVE looking, Sansui, brushed silver, QUAD receiver, surrounded by handsome, real Walnut wood veneer side plates. This unit has about THE highest 'KPD-Factor' of any we've had in a long time. What's a 'KPD Factor'? You'll find out when you call to order it.
Features gorgeous, back-lit slide rule analog tuning scale with matching VU meters as well. VERY elegant and IMPRESSIVE unit when lit in a darkened room. 'Heavy' built, machined aluminum knobs and button caps, also make this unit a pleasure to 'feel'. One of the most 'fun' receivers I've used in a long time.

Regarding some of the 'Quad' aspects, from the original Sansui QR-4500 brochure,
"It's exclusive, built-in, 2-4 Synthesizer Encoder helps the QS regular matrix system convert all of your 2-channel / stereo records, tapes and FM stereo broadcasts into more exciting 4-channel sound than ever.  It has 'Phase Matrix' circuitry that takes advantage of Sansui's exclusive front-rear logic to decode all SQ system records too, with superb front-rear separation...And for even greater versatility, the unit comes complete with an extra set of discrete 4-channel inputs, permitting you to connect a 'demodulator' to play "discrete" records".

HEY, WHY ALL THE 'X'd' OUT / OMITTED SPECS AND TEXT?
