We have completely gone through the unit cleaning and testing all. Only issue is the the power switch would not turn "off", nor was one available, so it was "shunted-ON" so to the unit will need to be powered off with a switched AC outlet or similar. Other than that refurbishment came out fine. All inputs tested and both side produces clean and even sine waves into static 8 & 4 ohm loads! No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent! All functions test fine. Following restoration procedures, the unit was ran continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a load with "Loudness" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 48 hours. While this unit was originally rated at 40 wpc, our test bench, the internal amplifiers produced 22 volts per channel for 60 watts per channel at 8 Ω and 22 volts at 4 Ω for 76 watts per channel via discrete, metal cased, TO-3 style outputs @ 1khz. ____________________________ Great looking, very versatile, Loud and Punchy, Akai AM-2400, integrated amplifier. The Yamaha DSP-A2070, 5-Channel, 350** watt A/V integrated amplifier. From Yamaha literature, "The DSP-A2070 breaks new ground. The A2070 provides the most versatile control and switching yet on a Yamaha product. It's also the first Yamaha component to provide digitally processed Dolby Pro Logic and Cinema DSP with Pro Logic Enhanced and 70mm Theater settings". Probably the best thing about the Yamaha DSP-Axxx units from this era are that they are utilizing Class A/B amp designs instead of the newer, lightweight, cheap Class "D" designs coming out of most of the Chinese products you see currently on the market for less than $1000. That is why the older gear generally sounds vastly better than the new gear for regular, old 2 channel audio listening. While this unit was originally rated at 33 & 40 wpc respectively at 8 & 4 ohms, on our test bench the internal amplifiers produced 18 volts per channel for 40 watts per channel at 8 ohms and 14 volts at 4 ohms for 49 watts per channel via discrete, metal cased, TO-3 style outputs @ 1khz. ____________________________ These Sansui QS-500's are great amps for venturing into the classic Quad / 4-Channel audio systems, as they allow you to use part of your current system as a compliment. The Sansui model QS-500 Quadraphonic Synthesizer and Rear Channel Amplifier. This device allows you to play Regular Matrix quadraphonic encoded source material as well as synthesizing quadraphonic sound from any source. Use it with your existing two channel receiver.
