We have completely gone through
this Pioneer RH-65 deck cleaning all and adjusting the head
azimuth &
track cross-talk for optimum performance
and the best high-frequency response (not normally expected from 8-track
cartridge performance).
Head azimuth, track
alignment, signal phase and internal output level pots all cleaned and
then adjusted utilizing dual-trace oscilloscope and factory test tone
tape. Internal playback and meter pots also adjusted w/ O-scope. Deck
has incredibly clear sounding highs even when using pre-recorded tapes.
Entire transport and mechanism has been disassembled, cleaned,
re-lubed and de-magnetized. New main drive belt and counter belts installed.
Program change mechanism disassembled, cleaned and
re-lubed for trouble-free program changes.
Capstan cleaned, burnished /
resurfaced and re-lubed.
All original program, meter,
record and auto-stop lamps work fine. Heads have been cleaned and de-magnetized
and are in great shape.
Play, Signal path contacts burnished for static-free
performance. This is one of the rare Pioneer 8-Tracks we have gotten in
that still has a working tape counter, and with the new belt it
works great!
This machine would be perfect for burning your 8-track collection to
CD. Tape speed checked to 98.5% accuracy.
This particular RH-65, #...9649 is
a great recording 8-Track deck after restoration. Records great with
the following test results after adjusting heads and internal level
controls; -0dB @ 1kHz.
Dolby circuit is exceptional sounding on this particular deck.
With exception of the above mentioned counter issue and "Auto-Stop" all functions test fine and everything works GREAT!

We have completely gone

Great
quality 8-track cartridge play / record deck. This is a great deck for
transferring a large amount of tapes to another media as it has two very
important features. Momentary Fast Forward and Auto Stop. These features
are used to find the beginning of track one without going past the
beginning of the next track. Trying to do a lot of transfers, as a

Due to the age, conditions in which many 8-track
tapes have been stored in and
subjected to and the inherent quality shortcomings of the 8-track
cartridge format (ie; case shape tolerances, and
pressure pad designs), most tapes
will not sound as good as most of today's
modern formats and likely not as good as even their
original, limited quality sound.

/ capstan mechanism has been disassembled, cleaned, re-lubed
and de-magnetized. Program change mechanism cleaned and re-lubed for
trouble-free program changes. Record switch
cleaned for noise free and continuous operation. New, main
drive belt installed for years of trouble-free service. All original
program record lamps work fine. Heads have been cleaned and
de-magnetized and are in great shape. Play, signal path contacts
burnished for static-free performance. Capstan cleaned, burnished
and re-lubed. Input level and all internal pots cleaned
and adjusted again with factory test tones and an O-scope.
This machine would be perfect for burning your 8-track collection
to CD. Tape speed tested with factory 1kHz test tape for
reproduction at 1001Hz or 99.90%
accuracy!
This particular ED-261U, #...0400 is
a great recording 8-Track deck after restoration. Records great with
the following test results after adjusting heads and internal level
controls; -5dB @ 1kHz on High Bias Chrome tape and sounds great!
Lots of top end on playback of freshly recorded
tapes. Deck in excellent cosmetic condition.

Great
quality 8-track cartridge play / record deck. The
JVC / Nivico ED-261U. This is a great deck for transferring a
large amount of tapes to another media as it has two very important
features. Locking Fast Forward and Auto Stop. These features are
used to find the beginning of track one without "babysitting" the
machine while the tape plays or fast forwards. Trying to do a lot of
transfers, as a business without those two features will cost a lot
of time / money! It also has variable output level controls to match
your input device more correctly. This would also
make a great machine to add to your vintage audio rig and / or to
make tapes for your classic "Muscle Car".

about the size of some Reel to Reel motors and is a JVC,
Hysteresis-Synchronous, AC motor which is speed controlled from the
AC mains, thus it's incredible speed accuracy as tested. It also
features a surprisingly large power supply transformer for an
8-track and very heavy duty solenoids. Overall, it's a very well
built machine by JVC.
Again, with it's Locking FF and Auto-Stop would
make a great deck for a media transfer business.

two issues with this deck. One is that the Auto-Stop does not seem to
engage and we could find no way to rectify this. Also,
Pioneer 8-tracks
we get have non-functioning, non-repairable
tape counters. They have an inherent issue
with a small nylon gear around a steel shaft that after 30 years,
cracks, thus locking it up every revolution. There are two types of
Pioneer 8-track tape counters. Those that have
already have cracked gears and those that are just about ready to have
cracked gears. The "work-around" for this is to remove the linkage belt,
thus rendering the counter as a "wall flower".
This machine would be perfect for burning your 8-track collection to
CD. Tape speed checked to 97.3% accuracy.
This particular RH-65, #...2005 is
a great recording 8-Track deck after restoration. Records great with
the following test results after adjusting heads and internal level
controls; -2dB @ 1kHz.
Dolby circuit is exceptional sounding on this particular deck.

This is probably the best recording 8-track deck we have ever
refurbished. It's dynamics are astounding! It is aligned so well,
and sounds so good that we are taking the opportunity to record some
new test / alignment tapes in the shop for future decks!
